Art & Culture
• Taos is all about history: Taos Pueblo, built by native people 1,000 years ago, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the United States. In the town of Taos itself, the first Spanish settlers arrived in July 1598, nine years before the English colonized Jamestown. Historic sites include Don Fernando de Taos Plaza, Mabel Dodge Lujan House, Governor Bent House, Kit Carson Home & Museum, Millicent Rogers Museum, Martinez Hacienda, San Francisco de Asis Church in Ranchos de Taos and the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, the nation’s second highest expansion bridge rising 400 feet above the Rio Grande.
• Taos’ famed art colony reportedly began Sept. 3, 1898, when a broken wagon wheel detained Ernest L. Blumenschein and Bert G. Phillips. They liked the view, word spread and since that time, Taos has become a major art center with almost 100 galleries, around 1,336 artists, seven museums, community theater, performing arts group, orchestra, chorus and chamber music group.
• Shop-till-you-drop — Native American art and crafts, antiques, Spanish folk art, clothing, South American imports, jewelry, books, backpacks… How much time do you have? Taos is also known for its varied and delicious restaurants. Explore, or ask a local for advice.
• Winter Recreation opportunities include world-class skiing, cross-country skiing, hiking, ice fishing, biking, horseback riding, sledding, sleigh rides, snowmobiling and hot air balloon rides. Check out the Taos Youth & Family Center with its snazzy ice-skating rink, skate park, indoor swimming pool and video arcade.

Leslie Grella
Leslie Grella and husband Scott moved from Connecticut to Taos in 2004.
They opened L & G Interiors the summer of 2005.
“We chose Taos, or really, Taos chose us. We love the climate, the mountains, the vistas and the people. Taos and the surrounding areas, including Angel Fire and Red River have embraced L & G Interiors. We look forward to many years serving the community.”
